Childhood friends always bring the feels, the truth, and a touch of the dirt. Mark Hannigan, fellow Gen-X’er from Granite City, grew up a grinder over on East 27th Street. That’s STREET, not court or lane or Boulevard. He grew up in a mixed-race house, which resulted in him being the “little white kid” dancing all weird at the Mexican Honorary Club. He has been navigating parenthood, traveling Union gigs, jiu-jitsu, and sandwich shop searching, all while running an independent business in a neighboring city that provided a getaway from some of the chaos and predictability of his hometown.
